The Mid-Atlantic Region Input-Output Table consists of 55 endogenous sectors and 8
exogenous sectors. Of the 55 endogenous sectors, eight represent Forest Product
industries: Forest Products, Forestry Products, Logging Camps and Contractors, Sawmills,
Millwork and Plywood, Other Woodproducts, Wood Furniture and Fixtures, and Paper and paper
products. The total output of the eight Forest industry sectors is $38.4 billion, which
amounts to 2.3% of the $1,671.2 of total gross output in the MARA Region. The Input-Output
Table shows some sizable interdependencies among different sectors in the Forest industry.
For example, the inputs of Millwork and Plywood, Other Woodproducts, and Wood Furniture
& Fixtures are mainly from Sawmills as indicated by the transaction from Sawmills to
those three sectors of $0.6 billion, $0.7 billion and $0.3 billion, respectively.
Moreover, Forestry products sold $0.4 billion worth of output to Logging Camps and
Contractors. At the same time, Sawmills purchased more than 80% of the output of Logging
Camps and Contractors.
The Input-Output Table for the Mid-Atlantic Region also yields extensive insight into its
economic structure. Services is the largest sector, with a total gross output of $761.9
billion, which accounts for 46% of the total gross output of the Mid-Atlantic Region. The
second largest sector is Manufacturing, with a total output of $407.3 billion, or almost
one-fourth of the MARA Region total. The other primary sectors of Agriculture and Minerals
are relatively small in terms of gross output. Overall, the I-O Table indicates that this
is a very advanced economic region.
